Projects move through people
A technically strong plan can fail because the right person was not consulted, a decision was not understood, a team was overloaded, or a stakeholder heard important news too late.
Communication is a design problem

Team development
Teams evolve. New teams often need more structure and clarity. Experienced teams may need more autonomy and fewer unnecessary approvals. The PM should adapt leadership to the team rather than applying one management style everywhere.
Escalation without drama
A good escalation states the situation, impact, options, recommendation and decision required. “We have a problem” is less useful than “The approval is three days late; it threatens the integration test window; here are two recovery options; I recommend option A.”
Stakeholder communication is a design problem
Different people need different information to make different decisions. A sponsor does not need a list of every development task; a developer may need a dependency that is irrelevant to the sponsor.
Write updates for action
Progress: subscription checkout completed and in QA.
Issue: payment-provider approval is two days late.
Impact: may affect the planned UAT window.
Recommendation: continue test completion while approval is pending; keep one alternative integration path ready.
Decision needed: confirm whether the launch date remains fixed.
Escalate with facts
Good escalation reduces the amount of work the next decision-maker has to do. Bring the situation, impact, options and recommendation. “We have a problem” is not an escalation; “Here are the two choices and the consequence of each” is.
Write a six-line status update for a project that is on schedule but has a delayed third-party integration. Make the decision needed obvious in the first few lines.
